Fascinating Science, Know the Reasons

A)WHY DO OUR EARS ACHE WHEN WE ARE DRIVING A MOUNTAIN ROAD OR TRAVELLING THROUGH A TUNNEL IN A TRAIN OR LOSING ALTITUDE EHWN A PLANE IS LANDING ?

B) WHY DOSEN’T FRAVITY WORK ON BIRDS ?

a)The atmosphere surrounding the earth exerts a pressure on all objects, living or lifeless. All living creatures have the mechanism to generate a balancing pressure from within to avoid being crushed by the atmospheric pressure. On a sudden change in the atmospheric pressure, as it happens during the rapid changes in the altitude while driving down a mountain road or landing an aircraft(atmospheric pressure dec. with altitude),our body is not able to adjust its internal layers. Ear membrane, being very thin and delicate, feels the stresses maximum resulting in ear-ache. A train running through a tunnel increases the pressure of the air inside the tunnel to a good degree and a similar effect is produced on our ear drums.

b) If a bird does not flap its wings or does not use the buoyancy force to remain afloat, it will fall down because of the gravitational pull. Birds have specially modified flight muscles as well as 10 pairs of air sacs located in the body. While flying, the air sacs in the body and feathers get filled with air and provide buoyancy .The bones of the birds are hollow thus the body weight is reduced which too facilitates flying.
